The EMC VNX for File Simulator package is a pre-installed virtual VNX for File run on VMware Player, or VMware Workstation software. The simulator behaves like a VNX for File system with a Control Station and one or two Data Movers running the DART operating system. It manages simulated LUNs on the local virtual disk and allows the user to create and manage new simulated LUNs on mounted external file systems. Release 12.0.R4 introduces the virtualized Simulator (vSim), a new product that taps the potential of network function virtualization (NFV). The vSim runs a virtualization-ready version of SR OS called SR OS-VM. This new operating system is designed to run in a virtual machine (VM) on a generic Intel x86 server. In control and management plane aspects, the vSim is functionally and operationally equivalent to an Alcatel-Lucent hardware-based SR OS router. This new product is intended to be used as a laboratory tool to fully simulate the control and management plane of an SR OS node. The vSim is not intended to be used in a production network environment and the forwarding plane is limited to 250 pps per interface.
