Chef is an open-source systems management and cloud infrastructure automation framework created by Opscode.
Chef is a company & configuration management tool written in Ruby and Erlang. It uses a pure-Ruby, domain-specific language (DSL) for writing system configuration “recipes”. Chef is used to streamline the task of configuring and maintaining a company’s servers, and can integrate with cloud-based platforms such as Rackspace, Internap, Amazon EC2, Google Cloud Platform, OpenStack, SoftLayer, and Microsoft Azure to automatically provision and configure new machines. Chef contains solutions for both small and large scale systems, with features and pricing for the respective ranges.

Chef Fundamentals
Chef Essentials is a comprehensive instructor-led course covering the basic architecture of Chef, the use of Chef Development Kit (ChefDK), and associated tools. Development, engineering, and operations staff will learn to use Chef to automate the configuration, deployment, and management of server infrastructure. Participants will also learn how to test their configurations. Each of the core units in this course has hands-on exercises to reinforce the material. At the end of the course, students will have a code repository that can be used and modified to solve real business problems.
