With two decades of experience as an entertainment design instructor, Feng has observed a noticeable shift in student portfolios. In the early 2000s, portfolios were rich with imaginative concepts. These earlier works exuded soul, creativity, and a sense of enjoyment. Fast forward to the present, and there’s a surge in portfolios characterized by flashy presentations-meticulously crafted with the latest 3D renderers, flawless compositions, stunning lighting, and aesthetically pleasing forms-however, a noticeable lack of design content and a diminished sense of entertainment beneath the flash.
During his presentation, Feng aims to inspire design students to prioritize fun and creativity over fixation on the latest software and flashy renders.
