Course Description:
In this tour de force on the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) dynamic routing protocol for the Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) candidate we will cover the basics of OSPF configuration and adjacencies, message types, Designated Router (DR)/Backup Designated Router (BDR) behavior, Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) semantics, timers, the different OSPF network types such as point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, broadcast, non-broadcast, and point-to-multipoint non-broadcast, OSPF in an L3 VPN environment as the Provider Edge (PE)-to-Customer Edge (CE) protocol, neighbor states, an exhaustive examination of the Link State Database (LSDB), LSA types, traffic engineering with OSPF, summarization on Area Border Routers (ABRs) and Autonomous System Border/Boundary Routers (ASBRs), virtual links, the Stub, Totally Stub, Not-so-Stubby, Totally Not-so-Stubby area types, OSPFv3, OSPFv3 with Address Families (AF), extensive use of Wireshark for packet capture and analysis, OSPF authentication, Incremental Shortest Path First (ISPF), OSPF and MPLS in an MPLS BGP-free core, and a detailed look at OSPF RFCs 2328, 5340, and 5838.
