In this lecture at Stanford University, Jon talks about the Internet Protocol, hacking using bots, spoofing, Routing protocols like BGP, PKI, QoS, NAT and if we really need it with IPv6, TCP, what Comcast is doing as a service provider that may surprise you, the problem of Internet governance and the controls that we have. Transitions and crises that exist and where he personally feels the Internet is going due to issues that are out of our control and according to him, there is nothing that can be done about that.
Jon Peterson is an expert on security and network routing. Was a director at Level 3, the largest competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC) and the 2nd largest provider of fiber optic internet access (based on coverage area) in the United States. Jon is currently a Member of the Internet Architecture Board.The IAB is an independent committee of researchers and professionals who are deeply committed to make the Internet function effectively.
Jon has also been actively involved with the IETF, and he has served as its Director for 6 years. He is a Member of the related organization, the Internet Engineering Steering Group.He was a Co-Director of the Transport Area from 2003 to 2006 and Co-Director of the Real-time Applications and Infrastructure area, from 2006 to 2009. He was also a Member of the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) of the ICANN.
He has been instrumental in the development of a large number of RFCs including the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).
