Netflix – The Russian Revolution (2017)
English | Documentary | Size: 1.27 GB
The Russian Revolution in 1917 changed the course of history. The event decreed the demise of the old Tsarist regime and in its nature and sweep, proved to be the greatest social upheaval since the days of the French Revolution. The Bolsheviks, who seized power in October that year, proceeded to establish the world’s first Communist State covering nearly one-sixth of the globe. Their Revolution, it has been argued, proved to be the most momentous event of the twentieth century inspiring communist movements and revolutions across the world. The Bolsheviks continued in power for over seventy years until the structure which they had so assiduously built up collapsed under its own weight in 1991.
However, after the 1991 fall of Soviet Union the repercussions of the revolution are felt even one hundred years later. This revolution can be considered to be the last revolution in the series of revolts in the 19th century Russian Empire that began with the Decembrist uprising of 1825, followed by 1905 Russian Revolution, and finally the February 1917 revolution that led to the abdication of the Tsar Nicholas II. The Socialist Revolution that took place on 25 October was led by the Bolsheviks. It is often called as the Red October or Bolshevik Revolution, which began in Petrograd and it eventually spread throughout the territories of Russian Empire.
During the October Revolution, Bolsheviks imprison the imperial family in a remote house, and the Romanovs found themselves in the hands of the newly formed revolutionary government. After months of plotting, the Romanov family is assassinated by their Bolshevik captors, and all seven of the Romanovs-the last gasp of the Russian monarchy-were dead.
This documentary tells the story of Vladimir Lenin’s Ulyanovs and the Tsar’s Romanovs. The battle would feature assassinations, executions, and a daring seizure of power. The entire course of world history would be changed and the stage would be set for Joseph Stalin.
The production features contributions from leading historians Dr Daniel Beer, Frances Welch, Professor Donald Rayfield, Dr Helen Rappaport & Victor Sebestyen.
