Hi, my name is Charles Smiles and welcome to this Oracle Database 12c SQL Fundamentals course. I will be your instructor. This course will serve as both introductory and intermediary course for performing SQL query and database operations against Oracle 12c database.
This course supplements the Oracle Database: SQL Workshop I course offered by Oracle University. So if you are on a low budget, but need a top notch course on par with most vendor training you have came to the right place. Before we begin, let me provide a bit of background about myself. I am an Oracle certified Database Professional who has been working professionally with Oracle databases since 2004. My experience has mostly centered around consulting but I have worked as an on-staff Oracle DBA/Developer for a number of companies.
In this workshop I will provide you foundational coverage of the Oracle SQL language. This course is comprehensive enough to serve as your primary certification exam prep for the OCA SQL IZ0-061 exam. Many of the important objectives of that exam coincide with the objectives I believe all practitioners should be knowledgeable of when working Oracle SQL. Those objectives include understanding normalization, basic selects, table joins, modifying objects, subqueries, updating rows, and many other topics we will cover. Many of you may be new to Oracle’s version of SQL and some of you may have some prior experience . I’ve prepared the content to ensure easy assimilation for new folks and enough challenge for more sophisticated students. So if you are looking to launch a career as an Oracle Database Administrator or Oracle PL/SQL Developer, this is great starting point. Beyond the multitude of lectures, demos, and quizzes, I have introduced lab exercises which requires an installation of Oracle Database 12c. For that reason, the first lab features a guided installation of Oracle Database 12c and SQL Developer. Unlike some other instructors, I’ve included instructions for installing on Windows and Mac OS X. The demonstrations and labs will feature a demonstration schema you will need to install if you intend on following along in the course.
