Real-time rendering is undoubtedly the future of filmmaking. I’ve used it for personal and professional filmmaking and animation work since the first versions of Unreal 4. Without the need for a powerful render farm, you can build beautiful worlds and sets within a free game engine and render it on a single pc. Unreal now has a host of tools aimed at filmmakers, and can easily be your one stop shop for bringing your animations to life. Quixel Bridge allows you to bring thousands of photorealistic models and textures into Unreal for use at no extra cost. I’ve been so excited to get to use these two powerful tools in my own work, and hopefully with this course, you can easily add them into yours. [Read more…]
Lynda – Unreal Engine and Quixel Megascans Architectural Visualization
English | Size: 1.1GB
Category: Tutorial
Bring photorealistic architectural scenes to life using Quixel Megascans. In this course, join instructor Zaheer Mukhtar as he shows how to use Megascans-a library of scanned assets and powerful tools that are free to use with Unreal Engine-in your architectural visualization workflow. Zaheer begins by covering the basics of Megascans, including how to install Quixel Bridge, set up a library path, and export Megascans assets from Bridge to Unreal Engine 4 (UE4) to populate your scene. He then shows how to lay out a realistic outdoor architectural scene in UE4. Learn how to assign materials and surfaces to different objects, block out the layout, set up landscapes, place 3D plants throughout a scene, and set up lighting and post processing effects in UE4. The origins of Megascans stems from the need for a modern and vast library of high quality source materials. Artists need to spend a lot of time just to get a basic palette of materials done, either painting, sculpting, photo sourcing, custom scanning/processing or procedurally generating. By being able to rely on a realistic, high quality, standardized and physically based library of scanned assets, in conjunction with highly streamlined production tools to fully customize and integrate the scans, many head aches go away. The artistic experience gets to be more about having fun and playing around with broader creative ideas, rather than cleaning photos or raw scan data, or spending much of the time programming complex procedural node networks.
