These protocols are designed for use in Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) situations. I.e. they provide centralised access and control to resources. In the case of this post, we’re using a Microsoft Active Directory server to store credentials. ACS provides the AAA services and a AAA client (in this case a router) accesses the AAA server in order to authenticate users. In laymens terms it allows you to log into multiple boxes with a single set of credentials.
